The real reasons the market is crazy right now, how to navigate your way through it and hire successfully.
I’ve been getting a lot of clients asking me; ‘Nick, why is the market so crazy?’ as they’re trying to build their teams. Candidates are in the driving seat right now with a lot of choice, extra perks, WFH and salaries on the rise.
So if you’re hiring right now, what can you do to try and help yourself? First lets break down exactly whats going on..
2020; The covid pandemic shook the world and a lot of business froze recruitment and made redundancies.
2021/2022; Our economy started to bounce back as things slowly returned to normal and with a lot of businesses short-staffed from the year prior.
Low and behold, every company only wants seniors + tech leads that they don’t have to manage. They’ve all been fighting over them so have increased their salaries.
Meanwhile, our borders have remained closed, meaning no new devs / talent coming in from Europe, UK, NZ, you name it. So again – firms have to overpay to get what they want.
This also means recruitment consultants are desperate because weve all got about 30 roles on so, software devs are getting entitled because of the amount of roles theyre being sent.
Recruiters aren’t reading Linkedin profiles properly and just fking messaging everyone. If a dev has the right buzz words (react /aws) theyre gonna get messaged and then think ‘oh hey I can get 150 base, why am I on $85k? then go and resign lol.
One of my clients rang me the other day to increase all salaries across the business because all their devs are complaining they’re being underpaid, because of the messages they’ve been getting on linkedin, about 160k base node + react full stack roles.
